EXPEDITIONARY SIGNAL BATTALION (ESB) INTERNETWORKING
This course builds on the Basic Cisco course with ESB data technologies. When combined, these courses provide the JNN, CPN, and SSSv3 (ESB version) operator with the background to operate the NIPR / SIPR data stacks. The ESB Internetworking course covers virtual private networks (VPNs), Netscreen firewalls, Turbo IP, TACLANE, and other advanced routing topics that support the ESB architecture.
COMMERCIAL-OFF-THE-SHELF NETWORK NODAL MANAGEMENT
This course covers the management of Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) equipment and gives a general understanding of commercial equivalents of EAC assets and their capabilities in the context of the SSSv3, JNN, CPN, and Data Package. The course consists of the overall network planning process and the implementation of mission requirements. During this course students will receive basic knowledge of how to effectively deploy, manage, maintain, and phase in a network composed of Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) equipment. Management topics cover devices such as: Promina multiplexer, Redcom IGX telephone switch, Single Shelter Switch (SSSv3), Cisco devices, Microsoft servers, firewalls, media converters, encryption units, LAN extensions, and network test equipment. Cable termination in the context of this equipment is also covered. Hands on training is conducted as equipment is available.
TACTICAL NETWORK NODAL MANAGEMENT
This course covers the management of tactical switching, transmission equipment, and supporting assets such as multiplexers, line termination units, remote multiplex combiners, network orderwire, and COMSEC. This course provides a general understanding of tactical EAC assets and their capabilities. The course consists of the overall network planning process and the implementation of mission requirements. During this course students will receive basic knowledge of how to effectively deploy, manage, maintain, and phase in a tactical network in the context of a unit network.
FIBER OPTIC AND COPPER CABLE TERMINATION
The Fiber Optic and Copper Cable Termination course covers the termination and maintenance of fiber optic and copper cables. Through lecture and practical exercises, students learn: (1) fiber and copper cabling theory; (2) fiber and copper termination; (3) fiber fusion splicing; and (4) fiber and copper testing. This course leads to the 3M Fiber Optic Technician credential.
NETWORK MAINTENANCE
The Network Maintenance course provides students with an understanding of SolarWinds and SNMPc, with a focus on network maintenance.
HELP DESK
The Help Desk course covers basics of CISCO routing, switching, and Server 2003 administration in the context of a Help Desk scenario. The course provides a strong focus on troubleshooting issues that are specific to an EAC network.
PROJECT MANAGEMENT
This course provides signal unit staff with the knowledge required to utilize Microsoft Project 2003 in the implementation of Project Management principles. The course begins with an introduction to project management where students are familiarized with the principles of project management and manually implement these principles in a project management scenario.
WEB ADMINISTRATION
The Web Administration course trains soldiers who have Web site content development and / or maintenance responsibilities, skills in HTML coding, use of an HTML editor (such as FrontPage), Web graphics design, forms, scripting and Web server maintenance.
TELECOMMUNICATIONS
The Telecommunications course covers commercial telecommunications technologies, from telecommunications basics through broadband networking, through wireless extensions to the wireline/fiberline network. This course is important for Joint Tactical applications, in which Signal Command resources are integrated with commercial systems used by other units and host nation telecommunications networks.
